About Nobody Walks in Long Beach

First off, about the name. I came up with it a few years ago when I was doing a lot of walking and running around our area of Long Beach, Calif. Apparently I was the only one. It seems that Long Beach is one of the most walking-unfriendly cities on the planet. There are mile-long stretches of boulevards with no sidewalks, crumbling sidewalks and trash-strewn dirt paths. Well, I registered the name with WordPress and promptly forgot about.

Now, after years of being gainfully employed in the newspaper and publishing world, I opted to enter the Exciting, Well-Paid World of Freelance Writing so Nobody Walks in Long Beach was brought back from the dead. I wanted another outlet that wasn’t exactly work. It’s mostly a place to post images, non-work related writing, some writing that is work and other general nonsense. In no particular order, I’m an idiot for motorcycles, good food, cooking, architecture, great images, not-so-great images and the written word. Seems this is as good a place as any to let it all hang out.

Cheers, Dennis Johnson

Well, at least in Long Beach, you can walk to a liquor store. My stupid yuppy town has banned all liquor stores. It’s what I miss most about the LBC!

That’s what you get for living in Uptight East Coast/Midwest Transplantsville By The Sea.

They’ll give a blog to anyone these days, won’t they? 🙂

Cheers Dennis, love the combo of bikes and food!

It’s a sad day when the likes of me can start blogging.
